Thomas
Whalen’s Research Interests
My
research interests center around using mathematical, computational,
possibilistic, and logical models (including fuzzy logic) to
applications that
are intractable to conventional analytical and statistical techniques
unless
questionable simplifying assumptions are imposed.
In the
past I have successfully collaborated with experts in risk and hazard
assessment, medical malpractice insurance, microbiology, placement of
children
needing adoption, manufacturing and design of control systems,
forecasting, electronic
commerce, and postmodern philosophy. I
am always enthusiastic about the opportunity to broaden my hrorizons
while
making practical contributions applying my modeling skills in new and
important
areas.
